gruffiti little bits of nonsense

Atheism

Atheism is not the belief that there are no deities. It is not a belief, as many theists like to argue.

It is the rejection of the belief that there are deities, based on a lack of evidence for such claims.

I do not know if there is a God/are Gods; I have just never seen any evidence for any and I'm always surprised that people don't seem to mind this and would rather believe what they were told as children, or feel is a nice, comforting thing to believe.

I'm not comforted by my lack of faith, but comfort isn't everything. I think trying to find out how the universe really works is a) more fun, and b) more honest than just accepting on faith what other humans try to fob off as "The Truth".

The universe we live in is an extraordinary, beautiful and mystifying thing. It's a disservice to its magnificence and just plain lazy to just hand-wave away its workings with facile, magical explanations.

Personally, I'm okay with not knowing, not having answers, because we have a great method for finding them out (it's called science), but also because I'd rather eventually know the truth or not know at all, than believe a lie.

More importantly, irrespective of your spiritual-beliefs, or whether you believe in God, religion is a collection of bigotry and contradictory and often hateful concepts. Many religions, Christianity, Judaism and Islam are systems of belief-control and institutionalised pyschological (and sometimes physical) child abuse.

If you care about children, ALL children, then you cannot with any consistency, subscribe to any of the major religions. To be a Christian is to support child abuse.
